Welcome to TeSS' blog

As we come across interesting stuff, we'll post it here. What qualifies as "interesting" for TeSS? Well, that's a pretty broad range of topics! We are always interested in improving efficiency & expanding services through better utilization of technology. As we implement new technologies, we'll share our stories here. Another topic is technical problem & a nice solution. We also might come across a good magazine article. And the most impressive stuff will be Ideas tab. Here we’ll express our ideas or thoughts.
Anyway, feel free to wander. We really like it when people post responses to our blog.

phpMyAdmin “Cannot start session without errors”

Sometimes phpMyAdmin is inaccessible and gives the error message “Cannot start session without errors”. This can be due to  a client-sided issue with cookies.

The error message

This is what the error message looks like:

phpMyAdmin – Error

Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly.

Solution

This error can simply be an issue with cookies in your web browser, so either delete all stored cookies or selectively delete them for just the domain/directory where phpMyAdmin is if your browser allows this.

For example, in the current version of Google Chrome at the time of writing this post, you can go into the preferences then select Under the Hood -> Content Settings -> All Cookies and Site Data and then type the domain into the “Search cookies” input box. Then hover over the domain in question and click the X delete button. (Alternatively you could do this via the developer tools).

An alternate instant solution may works

Do not pick the URL from the history. You just explicitly write complete URL of phpMyAdmin

http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/

This surely will do the trick.

Personal tracking

From the mobile tower information we can implement a personal tracking system. It can be easily implemented by the help of mobile network providers.

A preformatted Call String will return the location of that mobile phone. For eg:- *777*[10 digit mob no, here call it as Host mobile number] (*777*9876543210) will return the current tower information of the host (9876543210).

For security reason, tower information will be send to administrator number only. The administrator number can be added  by the host number.

Q2 proves to be big for Google products, especially Android

The second quarter of 2011 was big and busy for Google, with stellar earnings and a record number of new products rolled out. But Android proved to be the most solid.

Speaking during the company’s quarterly webcast for investors on Thursday, CEO Larry Page was excited about many things, especially Google+. But he certainly did not forget to address Android, especially given these incredible numbers:

We have tremendous new businesses being viewed as crazy — Android. And actually have a new metric to report in Android of 550,000 phones activated a day. That is a huge number, even by Google’s standards.

That’s up from estimates reported just a few weeks ago that pegged the average at 500,000 per day.

Google’s other operating system, Chrome, was also a key point during the webcast. After all, Chromebooks by Samsung and Acer started shipping during the second quarter after playing a major role at Google I/O in San Francisco this past May.

Although he didn’t divulge any sales figures, Page did note that “Chrome is the fastest growing browser” with over 160 million users.

Google did shutter a few of its products during Q2 – namely Google Health and Google PowerMeter. However, Google execs did not address the expected rebranding of Picasa and Blogger to align with the growth and all-encompassing Google+.

As a general reflection (and likely the direction he plans to keep taking as CEO), Page said he wants Google “to create services that people in the world use twice a day, just like a toothbrush.”

Now people rightly ask, how will we monetize these businesses? Of course, I understand the need to balance the short-term with the longer-term needs, because our revenues and growth serve as the engine that funds our innovation. But our emerging high usage products can generate huge new businesses for Google in the long run, just like search. And we have tons of experience monetizing successful products over time. Well-run technology businesses with tremendous consumer usage make a lot of money over the long term.

There are few such products that fit that toothbrush-like category for millions of people, even those without Android phones and tablets as well as Chromebooks. Just look at Gmail and Google Apps. Even Google+ is on the way to reaching that kind of potential (or rather, addiction on the part of its users).

Of course, many other projects are going to take considerably longer to attract that kind of attention – if they ever do. Examples are Google Wallet and Offers, both of which were also introduced in May. Offers is now live in Portland, San Francisco, Oakland and New York City.

Unfortunately, even though it was mentioned just once, Page did not go into detail about Google’s driverless cars.

Google acquires QR code-based loyalty card startup Punchd

Google has acquired Punchd, which updated the customer loyalty card concept for the QR code-scanning generation.

Late last week, reports were circulating that Google had snapped up smartphone-based loyalty card developer Punchd – but the company’s Twitter account flatly denied that it had been bought. Today, though, Google’s acquisition of Punchd is official. The way Punchd works is simple: every time you buy something from a participating store that’s part of a customer loyalty program – like buy five cups of coffee, get one free – you get to scan a QR code behind the counter. The Punchd app keeps track of how many times you’ve gotten your virtual punchcard alerts the user when they get their freebie.

We don’t know how much Google paid to acquire Punchd and its six employees. But it’s easy to see where it fits into Google’s overall strategy. Groupon competitor Google Offers is going live soon, representing the search giant’s play for the local commerce market. And if Google can come up with a smart integration, Punchd could complement the upcoming Google Wallet NFC payment system.

Of course, there’s another possibility: As GigaOM notes, Punchd’s team consists of some savvy Android software engineers, and this could just as easily be a talent grab. But I have a hunch that Punchd’s technology is going to wind up as part of Google’s local commerce products.
